Date: 1939 (dated) Victoria, B.C.

Dimensions: 20 x 29.5 inches (51 x 75 cm)

This is a rare pictorial map of the city of Victoria, the capitol of British Columbia, Canada by Amy Adamson whose name appears in the lower left. A copyright date of April 3rd 1939 can be found in the lower right.

The map is oriented with North at the top as indicated by a catholic cross styled compass rose that appears in the canter of the map. Surrounding the coast are a wide variety of ships with notations on their origins and history. From "Indian War Canoes," to the massive Empress of Japan ocean liner, a variety of schooners, naval ships and fishing vessels, Adamson leaves little omitted.

Adamson seems to focus on recreation when it comes to the interior content of the map. Several golf courses can be found throughout as well as an amusement park, race track, tennis courts, and people enjoying other outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, and flying a kite. Government buildings, schools, and an antique mall can also be found. The seal of "City of Victoria Vancouver Island," with coat of arms adorns the top right corner of the map.

Condition: This map is in B condition with some water damage along the lower portion of the map. It has been professionally linen-backed for preservation and presentation purposes, a reversible process.
