This is a finely detailed map of several important islands in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean. Divided into three sections, this map depicts the present day islands of the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Cuba. Presented as a sort of terrestrial map and sea chart hybrid, each section identifies, the locations of towns, forts, rivers, and some physical topography as well as navigational hazards, anchorages, and shallow banks.

The map was published as part of John Thompson’s “A New General Atlas,” in 1817 out of Edinburgh, Scotland. The atlas acted as a continuation of Pinkerton’s Modern Atlas of 1815 as the resemblance between the two in quite noticeable. Thompson’s atlas adds about twenty maps not included in that of Pinkerton. Nearly half of these extra maps focus on the West India Islands.

Condition: The map is in A condition with bright color over a strong impression. The paper is strong and clean without any holes or tears and ample margins for framing.
