This is a fine example of David Klein’s London travel poster for Trans World Airlines. Throughout the 1950s-60s, Klein produced a variety of works for the airline, which at that time was run by Howard Hughes, who was rapidly expanding the business and convenience of air travel following World War II.

The London poster features the distinctive monuments of Big Ben at the House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey Church, and the Crimea and Indian Mutiny Memorial with the sculpture of Saint George defeating a dragon.

David Klein was born in El Paso, Texas in 1918 and moved to Los Angeles for art school. He served for the U.S. Army during WWII and produced illustrations for the U.S. Armed Forces. After the war he moved to New York City, where he began working in the Broadway Theater District. He is most known however for his contributions to the world of commercial advertising for the tourism industry, most notably, TWA. Klein resided in New York until his death on December 9, 2005 at the age of 87.

Condition: This poster is in B+ condition, with prior tape on the corners professionally removed. The poster has been linen backed for preservation purposes.
