DESCRIPTION
This booklet titled "The Greater Chicago Investment Company", is a promotional and informational publication related to an investment firm with offices in Chicago and Milwaukee. The view was made to emphasize metropolitan growth, infrastructure, and economic potential, in an attempt to appeal to prospective investors or homebuyers.
It has a leather-textured maroon cover with silver embossed lettering, and slim format. Inside, is a photo-image of a painted bird's-eye view of Chicagoland, by The Midway Studio out of Hyde Park, Chicago, which was the workshop of notable Chicago sculptor Lorado Taft. The view is captivating, with countless smoke stacks, aircrafts and boats out over Lake Michigan, and the prominent downtown Loop district rising above the horizon. Additionally, it provides names roads, neighborhoods, streets, steel mills, industrial plants and other sites, including the Ford Airport, part of Henry Ford’s attempt to create an airline.
This piece of investment history from from the roaring 20s, just before the Great Depression is not listed in OCLC. There is also very little information available on the Greater Chicago Investment Co.
