Dimensions: 17.5 x 24 inches (44.5 x 61 cm)

This is an original antique map of Kentucky and Tennessee, published by Johnson and Ward out of New York in 1861.

The map is color coded by county and shows railroads, wagon roads, rivers, canals, ports, large towns, and villages of the mid-19th century. Three lovely vignettes provide views of the State House in Nashville, the Navy Yard in Memphis, and the entrance to Mammoth Cave. Important towns that can be found within the map include Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Lexington, and Louisville.

The timing of the publication of this map is noteworthy as the American Civil War had just begun and Tennessee seceded from the Union to join the Confederacy the same year. Kentucky would declare them as loyal slave state that for all intents and purposes would remain neutral. Booth states would see their men join both the Union and Confederate armies thus separations the population in war.

Condition: This map is in A condition with bold original color on fine paper with ample margins on all sides.
