This fascinating authentic antique engraving shows an epic battle involving princes of the Mughal Empire. Aurangzeb was one of its greatest emperors, who retained his title and power till his death, and under his rule the empire reached its geographical zenith. Following his death an era of long decline commenced during which the French and British supported rival princes in countless internecine campaigns such as that described by this engraving. Cavalry including armored elephants figured in these violent clashes. Text panels in French describe uprisings in which fathers and sons pitted themselves one against the other.

Henri Abraham Chatelain was a Parisian Huguenot pastor who is best known as a cartographer. His Atlas Historique was a groundbreaking work for its time. It included studies of geography, topography, history, ethnology, heraldry and cosmography.

Condition: This engraving is in A condition. The image itself is hand-colored with no condition issues. The borders and centerfold have some uneven toning and water stains. Some minor separations in the border have been repaired with archival material.
