Steel plate engraving. Original color (major parks, green; city boundary wall, outlined red; bodies of water, blue). Along the bottom, below the map, is a detailed engraving (“View from the Sparrow Hill. A panoramic view of Novo-Devitchei Monastery is in the foreground.”). This map was drawn just 24 years after the catastrophic fire of September 1812. An inset in the upper left quadrant shows St. Basil’s cathedral at the end of Red Square, and is incorrectly identified as the Church of the Assumption. The Garden Circle, which is the primary road around the center of Moscow to this very day, is shown as walled in places.
Condition: Area outside the main map (including the panoramic view of the city skyline at the bottom) darkened by contact with acidic paper. Otherwise, moderate condition.
