This is a rare, authentic, hand-colored, antique map of the Russian Empire, in two parts. It is considered one of the first accurate maps of the Russian Empire.
The area covered extends from the Baltic Sea to the Aleutian Islands and to the Caspian and Aral Seas in the south. It reflects Cary's extraordinary attention to detail, including provinces, cities and towns, and huge expanses of what would have been virgin forest. Other geographical details include rivers, plains, tundra and swamps. Interesting notes regarding Russian explorations and discoveries in the Arctic are included.
Condition: This double map is in A condition with a minor centerfold separation on one page that has been reinforced with archival material on the verso. Wide borders on all sides. A superb example of this map.
