A delightful art-deco style pictorial map of Washington and Oregon illustrating the abundant natural resources of the two states that reside within the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America.
This fanciful, vintage map was originally published by Fortune Magazine in March of 1940 within an article dedicated to the Pacific Northwest as an emerging agricultural and industrial economy, especially with the recent completion of Bonneville Dam and the ongoing construction of the Grand Coulee Dam which was scheduled to be completed in 1942. The article on the verso, which includes a map of California, goes into greater detail on the value and potential for greater wealth of the many, agricultural and industrial components that make up the region.
The map itself is loaded with pictographic detail noting the locations of agricultural production of hay, wheat, apples, strawberries, plums, peach, potatoes pears, cherries, cattle, sheep, chickens, and pigs. The vast timber industry is also well represented as are the abundant mining operations and opportunities for recreational fishing. Native American tribal reservations are noted throughout by seated indians and universities with a standing graduate. Red Chinook Salmon can be found along the coast at river mouths and they are specifically referenced in the article on the verso as the only thing that may not have a future with the building of the Grand Coulee Dam blocking them from their spawning waters in the upper tributaries of the Columbia River.
Condition: This map is in excellent condition, originally folded twice-over, now flattened and ready for framing. There are no significant holes, fold separations, or edge tears of note.
