1935 Off the Beaten Path

This scarce folding pictorial promotional map by B.C. Broome was published by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1932. It promotes the lines known as the ‘Courier car Indian-detours’ for Santa Fe, Isleta, Mesa Verde, and Hopi Indian pueblo settlements. It includes areas of Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. The map was printed on very thin paper, thus few have survived.
The map is covered with vignettes depicting various iconographic scenes of the ‘Old West’, including much wildlife, lots of cowboys, and many indigenous peoples. The towns are all depicted, as are the magnificent ruins of Mesa Verde, along with many topographical features. Wagon trains head west, sharpshooters take aim, Indian villages with tepees, bronco busters and cacti remind prospective visitors from Eastern America of the wonders awaiting them in the Wild West.
Condition: This folding map is in A- condition with a slight bit of soiling on one flattened edge. A very few miniscule holes are in the body of the map.
