By: Francis Marie Garnier

Date: 1860 (dated) Paris

Dimensions: 20.5 x 28.25 inches (52 x 71.75 cm)

A unique projection of the world by F.A. Garnier that favors accentuating the spherical nature of the world over the political geography of the time.

The world is laid upon what can be described as a Vertical, Double Hemisphere, Spherodial Projection. Garnier shades the outer reaches of the world to heighten the effect of a spherical object floating in space. While this produces an alluring visual, it almost omits portions of the world, such as the Atlantic Ocean, Eastern Australia, and the Kamchatka Peninsula of Northeastern Russia. Additional views as the bottom help makeup for this effect and are accompanied with a smaller world map on the Mercator projection that details temperature variations through isotherm lines.

Condition: Map is in B+ condition with one small hole in the center of the top border, original color on clean, heavy paper with full margins.
