This finely engraved map depicts the empire of Alexander the Great when it was at its greatest. Extending from Greece and Macedonia to Punjab in India, and including Egypt and the entire eastern edge of the Mediterranean, the empire was one of the largest in the history of the world.

As Alexander and his army moved eastward they founded countless cities in his name, organizing them in true Greek fashion, thus bringing Greek civilization, culture and tradition to what at that time was considered to be the far ends of the earth. To the present day there are settlements in what used to be his empire, where locals consider themselves to be direct descendants of Greek soldiers who intermarried, and which exhibit elements of Greek culture and language which would not occur randomly.

The map provides abundant information both geographical and topographical, including the sites and names of many ancient Greek cities and settlements, and the names of ancient Anatolian and Mesopotamian kingdoms and peoples. The same detail is found in the regions between Mesopotamia and India. Terrain is shown in hachure, and all major river systems and mountain chains are depicted and named.

Condition: This map is in A condition with outline coloring.
