General Map of the Konig: Preussischen Staaten, nach den neuestenund zuverläfsigsten Hülfsmitteln auf das genauste entworfen, une herausgegeben im Jahre 1799

By: Carl Jäck

Date: 1799 (dated) Berlin

Dimensions: 26 x 40 inches (66 x 101.5 cm)

A spectacular example of Carl Jäck's large format map of the Kingdom of Prussia. This example, published out of Berlin in 1799, is dissected into 21 sheets, laid on linen and issued folding with its original slip case.

The map shows the Kingdom of Prussia with its many states defined by original outline color. Situated in the northeastern part of the European continent, The Kingdom of Prussia was a significant German power with a diverse geography that included various regions and territories featuring coastal plains, vast stretches of fertile land, as well as rugged and mountainous areas. These geographical variations contributed to the economic and cultural diversity of the kingdom.

At the time of publication, Prussia was a significant European power, led by King Frederick William III. The country had emerged from the upheavals of the late 18th century, particularly the impact of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Prussia had suffered territorial losses to France and its allies in earlier conflicts, including the Treaty of Basel in 1795.

While Prussia was known for its disciplined and well-trained military, a legacy of Frederick the Great's reign, the state faced considerable challenges as it navigated the shifting alliances and conflicts in Europe. As the specter of Napoleonic expansion loomed, Prussia would play a key role in subsequent conflicts, such as the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806-1807).

Condition: Map is in A condition with bright colors and a dark print impression on clean paper backed by sturdy linen. Map comes with its original slip case that shows some sign of wear on the edges.
