This antique copperplate engraved map depicts the Holy Land divided into twelve regions according to the territories allotted for each of the twelve tribes. An inset map shows the Holy Land with its ancient Roman historical divisions such as Phoenicia and Samaria.

In the lower left a distance legend shows scale in a variety of systems including German, French, Arabic, Turkish and Jewish. An elaborate cartouche in the lower right quadrant embellishes the map. Depicted within it are two of the spies sent by Moses, returning to the camp heavily laden with some of the fruits they had found. The top of the cartouche features the front and back of the ancient Hebrew coin the shekel.

Within the cartouche it is stated that the map was revised by cartographer Johann Christoph Harenberg. The map is dedicated to Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, Duke of Braunschweig-Luneburg. The map was subsequently appeared in the Major Atlas Scholasticus published in 1752 by the Homann heirs.

Condition: This map is in B+ condition. A rust spot is in the upper left quadrant, and there is light soiling of the map in places.
